About the Badger Park Renovation
Badger Park was developed in the late 1930s as a federal Works Progress Administration (W.P.A.) project and was among the first parks in the region to install lights in 1948. Badger Park has a tradition of being one of the finest parks in the region. Uniquely, as a city park, it hosts high school athletics, and its softball/baseball field serves athletes from t-ball level to semi-professional. The park is a source of small-town pride in Shullsburg that has been used by four generations of families and children.

Keeping the Story Going
even more important than its history, Badger Park is a fundamental part of Shullsburg’s future. The park amenities need to be improved in order to maximize its potential. The City of Shullsburg is committed to preserving Badger Park as a vibrant public asset, and the proposed upgrades are essential to maintaining its long-term recreational function and community relevance. The Badger Park Renovation Project aligns with the community’s vision for enhancing and enriching the quality of life for our residents while fostering a sense of community pride and well-being.

The Plan for the Next Chapter
The proposed improvements to the park include an improved walking path, new fencing, athletic field improvements, including new LED field lighting, new backstops and dugouts, improved accessible restrooms, new concession stand and stormwater management solutions. These improvements will not only expand the park’s recreational offerings but also ensure that the scenic views and natural landscapes are preserved and integrated into the user experience. The project is designed to enhance the accessibility and enjoyment of the park’s natural surroundings, allowing residents and visitors to engage in outdoor recreation while appreciating the unique beauty of the area. In doing so, it strengthens the connection between the park’s amenities and the surrounding natural features, adding to the overall appeal and ecological value of Shullsburg’s Badger Park.
